Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had a HD crash. REinstalled Win 10 Pro. Now when I try to scan through Adobe Acrobat I am only offered option to use Default Settings (WIA).The default paper size when I see the HP interface for scanning is "Legal". I would like to change the default to "Letter" size, but I can find no way to change these defaults!

Welcome to HP support community.

How are you trying to scan?

Meanwhile:

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install printer full feature driver

Click here to download the driver.

I hope that helps.

Hi Sandy,

Thanks for trying to assist and resolve this issue.

I am trying to scan using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. After following the steps you suggested I still encounter the problem I experienced previously. That is, when the native HP interface opens, at the botom, is a selection drop down box for "Page Size". It defaults at "Legal 8.5 x 14 inches" Every single time I scan I have to reselect "Page Size" and scroll down to "Letter Size".

If I scan using HP Smart the default page size is "Letter" . I might have to learn to scan using HP Smart and suffer the 2 extra steps I have to take to get to the point where I can edit the pdf of the scan.

Oh well, thanks again for trying. I will not be able to mark "accepted solution" 😞
