HP DeskJet 2852e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

When I scan anything in color mode, it comes out hot pink. This is a new printer. Black and white print/copy fine, but color is pink. I wanted to redo some pictures in color but can not use pink ones. The scanning light is also pink when it runs, I would think it should be white. I don't see a way to check the light for a protective covering as it won't open the scan bed. Please help, I don't want to have to go buy yet another printer, this is the second one in two years.

@cathie66, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2852e scanner is experiencing a hardware issue, possibly related to the scanner light or sensor. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check for a Protective Film

Since this is a new printer, some HP scanners ship with a protective film over the scanner glass. Although you mentioned not seeing a way to check, try shining a flashlight at an angle on the glass to see if there's a thin film that needs to be peeled off.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

HP provides a diagnostic tool that can help detect scanning issues:

  • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Open the tool and select your printer.
  • Follow the prompts to troubleshoot scanning issues.

Check the Scanner Settings

  • Open HP Scan or Windows Scan.
  • Set the scan mode to Color.
  • Try different color depth settings (e.g., 24-bit, 48-bit).
  • If possible, scan using different software (like Windows Fax and Scan) to see if the issue persists.

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

  • Go to the HP Support website.
  • Enter your printer model and download the latest firmware and full-feature drivers.
  • Install the updates and restart your printer.

Reset the Printer

Sometimes a simple reset can fix hardware issues:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 5 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Try scanning again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
