We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I have an OfficeJet Pro 6978 that I've had for several years and had absolutely no problems, but now will not scan and I have now spent over 3 hours trying every solution I can think of, starting with Print and Scan Dr and moving on to HP Support Assistant with no luck whatsoever.  I realize the all-in-one is getting old and I've decided if I can't resolve the issue I'm just going to purchase a new one - and DEFINITELY NOT an HP.  If anyone has a suggestion let me know.  Thanks!

Hello @thecraines ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Try first this:

  1. shut down printer via on/off switch
  2. switch off the router
  3. shut down the computer
  4. wait about 60 sec.
  5. switch on the router, wait until the router has completely initialized itself again
  6. Switch on the printer, wait until the printer has finished its initialization
  7. switch on computer, log in (with admin rights) and wait about 10 sec.

... and now everything's working again?

If that doesn't help, here's what you need to do:

  1. Uninstall HP printer software, and then remove the printer from your Devices list.
  2. Restart the PC
  3. Close all programs
  4. download only this complete package: HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories
  5. Close all programs
  6. Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads click on the EXE
  7. The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
  8. Restart the PC again
  9. Now the installation is complete.

Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I have a similar issue. I've had my all-in-one since 2019. Prints great. Scan is finicky.  Now I can't 'scan to computer' at all. I can only control scan from the laptop which is inconvenient.  I too am looking for a new printer and DEFINITELY not HP.  I'll watch these boards for a solution.

The 'reboot' solution did not work.  The second recommendation, download & re-install scan drivers, did not work because when I clicked on HPPSdr.exe, I got this error "Can not delete output file".

Any rec'd?

Hi BadTech!  I did replace my HP all-in-one with an Epson XP-4105.  It scans easily - BUT- only on the glass, not from the feeder, so one page at a time!  😞    I scan quite a bit, and often multiple pages so this is inconvenient.  Be sure to check out this feature when looking for a new all-in-one.  Good luck in you search for a new printer!
