Hi @sunick3480,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with your HP printer when trying to scan. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this problem.

  • Restart Devices: Sometimes, simply restarting both your computer and the printer can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Check Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer, either via USB cable or through your wireless network. If using wireless, check that both devices are connected to the same network.
  • Update Drivers: Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can cause communication problems. Visit the HP website, enter your printer model, and download the latest drivers for your operating system.
  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP provides a free tool called "HP Print and Scan Doctor" which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems automatically. Download and run this tool to see if it detects any issues with your setup.
  • Firewall/Antivirus Settings: Sometimes, security software can block communication between the printer and computer. Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus software (if safe to do so) to see if it resolves the issue. If it does, you may need to configure exceptions for your printer in the security software settings.
  • Check for Software Conflicts: Other software running on your computer might interfere with the scanning process. Try scanning with all other programs closed to rule out conflicts.
  • Reset Printer: If none of the above steps work, try resetting your printer to its factory defaults. Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on how to do this.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and resolve the "selective computer not available" error when scanning with your HP printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
