Hello,

i just bought an MFP 178nw and would like to scan with more than 300 dpi, but neither MacOs (Ventura) nor HP Smart App nor Winodows 10 nor HP smart for iOS let me scan with more than 300dpi or change the resolution. Tried AirPrint and USB, firmware seems up to date.

where can i change the maximum resolution for this printer/scanner?

thanks for the support

Hi @AlfredoDE,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To change the maximum resolution for scanning with the HP MFP 178nw printer/scanner, you might need to use the HP Easy Scan software on your Mac. Here's how you can check if it allows you to adjust the resolution settings.

  • Ensure that you have the latest version of HP Easy Scan installed on your Mac. If not, you can download it from the Mac App Store.
  • Open HP Easy Scan on your Mac.
  • Place the document you want to scan on the scanner glass or load it into the document feeder, depending on your preference.
  • In HP Easy Scan, you should see the preview of the scanned document. Look for any options or settings related to resolution or image quality. It might be under the advanced settings or options.
  • If you find the resolution settings, you should be able to adjust it to a higher value than 300 dpi. Select the desired resolution or image quality setting.
  • Once you have made the necessary changes, initiate the scanning process within HP Easy Scan. It should now scan the document using the modified resolution settings.

If HP Easy Scan doesn't provide the option to change the resolution or if you have already tried it without success, it's possible that the HP MFP 178nw model does not support scanning at resolutions higher than 300 dpi. In that case, the hardware limitations of the scanner might prevent you from achieving a higher resolution.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
