HP Smart is not compatible with Windows 7.

HP Scan and Capture (also from the Windows Store) is not compatible with Windows 7.

Paint (mspaint) , although usually used for printing, can scan.  The window is "paint sized" (small to large depending on the original image and the "percentage" you set for the window).  Using Paint to scan is a "long way 'round" but should likely work.

What else?

If the printer is on the network,

If the Embedded Web Server (EWS) supports it,

Webscan is easy to use, does not require any additional software, and allows you to save your scan where you like (select folder on computer).

Webscan – located in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) – No additional software

If the printer is on the network,

  • Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
  • Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > make sure Webscan is checked / enabled
  • Click Apply to save any changes

Next

  • Tab Scan > Webscan
  • Set up Webscan the way you want it - for example, set the Source to ADF - Scan a test document using Webscan

What else?

The best you can do (probably)

If you have not done so,

Download-save-install the Full Feature Software:

HP DeskJet / Ink Advantage 2600/2675/2676/2677/2678 Print and Scan Driver and Accessories

The Full Feature Software supports Windows 7 through Windows 10.

The scan window in HP Scan is rather pathetic (small), but HP Scan might at least work.

You are welcome.

I actually like Paint (and still use it)  - an "old but still excellent" choice in my toolset.

Stay Safe.
