I am looking or Scanning software for the Officejet Pro 8620 for scanning photographs and saving to either DNG, PSD, or Tiff format. The software that comes with the printer only allows jpg output.

Hi @jpalik ,

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Barachiel is at your service.

I understand you are in need of support,

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

When was the last time it worked without these issues?

In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned below:

You may try the following applications, since you are using windows 7.

  • Microsoft Paint (All Windows versions): Search Windows for 'paint' to open the Paint desktop app, click File or the menu icon , and then click From scanner or camera.

  • Windows Fax and Scan (All Windows versions): Search Windows for 'fax' to open the desktop app, and then click New Scan.

  • Webscan utility (Network printers): Obtain the printer IP address to open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) in a web browser, and then click Webscan on the Scan tab.

Let me know how that pans out. 🙂

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask any other queries as  well,

Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help. 😉

Thank you Barachiel.   HP origianlly invented the OCR Technology which is now open source YEAH!

I am perplexed though that in the older HP 7900 All in One, we could scan docs directly into PDF's with HP's OCR technology.  It seems with the HP 8620, Users can only use the OCR techncolgy when scanning into RTF files?  WHen you want to scan to PDF's, there is no OCR capability.  Also true if you scan to JPG format, again no OCR capability.

Is this true or am I missing somehting?  If so is there add on capability Users can down load or is there a differnt HP Model that Supports this???  Or do us Users need to go out on our own to the Open Source Github route and jury rig up a solution?

https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract

Scanning docs using the HP 8620 into RTF's makes most docs unusable due to formatting and character recognition errors, not to mention the problem with images.

THanks!

Oh it appears that you can scan in Searchable PDF's but only from using the desktop softwarethrough its menue tree and not the menue on the HP 8620 units interface itself.  Strange but true.  I suggest you consider adding this capability to the Unit for futre releases / units.
