HI,
I have bought a new 9012e printer/scanner. My main task is to scan documents and I saw that there is an option to send scanned documents to an SMB share which worked great, but if I do so, there is no text recognition within the scanned pdf, it is just a picture. From the product specs, it reads like the printer can create editable documents (there is even an option for this). Can someone help on this one?

Hi,
Indeed you may set up scanning to a shared network folder to JPEG or PDF Files, such functionality does not support or offer any OCR capabilities indeed:
https://support.hp.com/id-en/document/ish_4929741-4929787-16
OCR is supported by your printer software, not by any Digital Filing capabilities as scanning to a folder or email.
You may scan using the HP Software to editable Text or Searchable PDF, by installing the Full Feature HP Software you may scan using the HP Scan app then:
You may also scan using the HP app, it's Shortcuts feature provide OCR capabilities as well (Scanning can be done from within the HP app or the printer front panel):

Hi Shlomi,
thanks for your prompt answer. I was using HP Easy Scan with the old 8600 already but found the idea to scan documents to a network folder much cleaner.
Which one would be better, the HP Easy Scan tool or the HP Smart App?

Hi Florian,
Both options could be used, I would recommend Hp Easy scan for a faster response, HP Shortcuts is a cloud service so may take longer to be processed on the cloud then locally.
Cheers,
Shlomi

I would doubt there is much difference, a similar engine is used as much as I aware, but it may always worth a trial to see if it may provide you a better results for your type of documents scanned.
Cheers,
Shlomi
