This is driving me to distraction.
I had a perfectly serviceable Scan to Network Folder Quick Set but recently changed my router, so the IP addresses of some of my devices changed, including my NAS, which I also had to reset because of another issue.  When I tried to scan to folder today, it wouldn't work - which makes sense.
So I deleted the existing Quick Sets to add new ones, but no.  Nothing worked.
I get the "Network error. Check the printer's network connection and try again."  I have.  Lots of times.  No luck.

I've used the NAS name and device's ip address.  No luck.  Same error.

What can possibly make this so difficult?
I have the login credentials for the NAS.

I have the folder ready and waiting.

I have printer sharing on (if that even makes a difference).

Nothing.  Network error. Check the printer's network connection and try again.

Can someone help, please?

Thank you.

Hi @Nightowl4933,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing quite the frustration with your printer setup. Let's see if we can troubleshoot this together.

First, let's start with some basic troubleshooting steps.

  • Ensure Network Connectivity: Double-check that your printer is connected to the same network as your NAS. Sometimes after changing routers, devices might not connect properly.
  • Verify Printer Settings: Confirm that the printer's network settings are correctly configured, including the gateway and DNS server settings. Sometimes, changing routers might require adjusting these settings on the printer.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve connectivity issues and add new features or improvements.
  • Check NAS Permissions: Make sure that the folder you're trying to scan to has the appropriate permissions set up on your NAS. The printer should have the necessary read/write access to the folder.
  • Try Using IP Address Instead of NAS Name: Instead of using the NAS name, try using the IP address directly in the scan settings on your printer. This can sometimes resolve issues related to DNS resolution.
  • Restart Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart of both
  • the printer and the NAS can help resolve network connectivity issues. Try powering off both devices, waiting a few minutes, and then powering them back on.
  • Firewall and Antivirus Software: Check if there are any firewall or antivirus settings blocking the communication between the printer and the NAS. You might need to configure exceptions for the printer or NAS in your firewall settings.
  • Test with Another Device: If possible, try setting up a network folder scan on another device, such as a computer, using the same credentials and folder path. This can help determine if the issue is specific to the printer or if it's a broader network configuration issue.
  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, you might consider performing a factory reset on your printer and reconfiguring it from scratch. This will erase all existing settings, so make sure to back up any important configurations before proceeding.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Alden4,

I can confirm theNAS and the printer are on the same network, with the same subnet mask and different ip addresses.

The printer firmware was recently updated (no more than two weeks ago).

My username has full read/write access to the NAS, as far as I can tell.

The error is the same, using wither the name of the ip address

The firewall is inactive and I don't use AV software

All devices have been restarted, multiple times

The NAS, printer and my PC are connected to the same network hub (TP-Link) and all have been rebooted several times, to no avail.

I'll test this with my Windows machine.

Factory reset also done recently.

Just to be clear, are the login credentials requested the PC account login details or those of the NAS?  For example, my login for the PC (iMac) are my first and last name plus the password.  Is there an issue with the username being two words?

Thank you

Same result using my Windows PC:
Network error. Check the printer's network connection and try again.

Hi all,

I've tried all the steps above, but the error is the same: Network error. Check the printer's network connection and try again.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think this might be a bit of a deeper problem, as I can't seem to access the website and my internet connection is really slow.
