I am trying to scan a document from the printer (HP Envy Photo 7830) to my laptop. When I select the  Scan to Computer option on the printer front screen it tells me to go to 123.hp.com/setup to download software which I have done several times but I still have to use the laptop to initiate the scan. My printer is remote from my laptop and I don't want to keep taking my laptop to the printer. On my previous printer,  HP Photosmart 6520, I could run the whole process from the printer. Why does this not work on my Envy Photo 7830?

Download and run HP Print and Scan Dr utility from link below to troubleshoot the issue.

Many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately after trying the solution suggested I still cannot initiate a scan from the printer. The instructions said to disconnect the device, by which I assume it meant the printer, then restart the computer. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence but when I restarted the computer it did a BIOS update which I've never seen before!

I then tried to scan to the computer from the printer and initially the screen showed the laptop but when I pressed scan document it showed the same message again titled "! Software Required" "To scan to computer, visit 123.hp.com/setup to download HP software (full software and drivers) . When I ran HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.3.1 it says that my software is up to date. Any other ideas?
