Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I am trying to scan from my officejet pro 7740, I am able to print and connected through USB not WIFI and not a network connection. When I open the HP Smart app it says the function has been disabled by the person who set up the printer, but I am the person who set up the printer and I never disabled any features. I have spent an hour trying to figure it out but every time it sends me to the HP smart app which is no help for setting it up or turning the feature back on. Any help would be appreciated.

I understand you are not able to use the HP Smart app to scan. We need to perform a factory reset on the printer to resolve this issue.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage
