We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Envy 4520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to scan from the machine direct to my email client  -  Thunderbird.  This is the default email client on the system.

I get a message that there is no email client connected.

How to I get the printer to recognize the app?

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are unable to do a scan to email from your printer.

Confirm the following requirements for the scan to email feature. If you do not meet these requirements, manually attach the file to your email message.

  • In most cases, scan to email works only when a local email client, such as Mozilla Thunderbird, is installed and set up on the computer.

  1. From the Scan menu on the printer display, select your computer name, and then select Email as PDF.
  2. Some Web-enabled HP printers have a Scan to Email app in the Apps menu. The app sends emails directly from the printer using your printer's ePrint email address.
  3. Search Windows for HP, and then select your printer.

    HP Printer Assistant opens.

  4. Click Scan, and then click Scan a Document or Photo.

    HP Scan opens.

  5. Select an email shortcut, such as Document to Email or Email as JPEG, and then click Scan.

    The scan preview opens.

  6. Click Send.

Let me know if that helps.

Hi.

Thanks for the advice.  I do exactly what you have suggested. I click on "email as .pdf" and receive the message "The HP Scan application cannaot faind an email application installed on this computer......etc,"

In fact, Thunderbird is installed, and has been for many a year.  My old printer found it OK, but this one is new.

It is an Envy5420, installed with the standard settings.

Any further advice will be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice.  Sadly, it did not work.  Printing is working fine, but scanning does not.

When trying to scan I get the message "The HP  Envy 4520 series was not found,,,,"  Clicking OK leads to message "Automatic Scanning could not be completed."

Looking in Devices & Printers I see the printer there, but no separate scanner.  Shouldn't the scanner show up as a separate machine?

I also notice that "Automatic configuration" is set as "OFF" in the printer's Properties.  Is that of any relevance?

Thanks for writing back to us.

Open the scanner lid, initiate scanning and check if the scanner light is lit up and moving across the scanner glass?

Thanks for writing back to us.

I understood the issue better now.

  • Set the email client as Default application
  • To Set the email client as Default application- Locate Thunderbird and click on Choose default for this programs
  • Select All and click on Save
  • Select Thunderbird again and click on Set this Program as default
  • Go back to Default Programs and click on Set program access and computer defaults as shown below
  • From the list click on Microsoft windows and check if you find the number of email client as shown in below image
  • Click on Non-Microsoft Verify if Mozilla Thunderbird is enabled , if you don’t find then continue
  • Now click on Custom and Select Mozilla Thunderbird as Default and click Ok

Let me know how it goes.

Hi.   am afraid we still do not have a result.  I can confirm that Thunderbird is the default email client.

I have followed your instructions as far as I can.   However, when I click on "Set program access and computer defaults",  I do not see the other items you suggest  -  viz.  "non-microsoft",  "custom" etc., so I could not follow them all.

A further oddity is that if I scan from the computer, the machine scans and saves the picture correctly;'  but there is no "scan to email" command .  When trying to use the screen on the printer, it will not scan at all.

Another oddity is that I am now getting a tiny screen with the message "This event is sent when the device is ready to transfer an image file to OCR".   It the tells me to select  a program to launch  for this action.  There are no programs listed.  Does this mean that I am missing an OCR file?  If so, how do I get it?  I  do have the disc which came with the machine, but cannot recognise such a file on its listing.

Do you think I should  uninstall the lot, and start again from scratch?   Can I do that without messing up the ink suupply etc.?

Thanks for your time so far.

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I would suggest you do a factory reset and set up the printer again.

I am sending you a private message. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely.

Cheers.
