Scanning two pages from an open book on the flatbed scanner of HP7740

I have a book published in 1935 which I would like to scan into a PDF. The book will open flat enabling me to copy two pages at a time. I have seen in a generic help website that typically this can be done, and each page stored separately in a PDF, but, for it to work properly, the spine of the book must be perpendicular to the scanning bar. The flatbed scan area of the HP 7740 is oriented in such a way that placing the book perpendicular to the scan bar won't allow both full pages to be scanned.

Can this HP model scanner be used to scan input like this?

I suspect that HP Scan can have a go at doing at least part of what you want.

I think (based on a different but similar type printer) that the software might (at least) be able to detect the pages of the book and then save each side as a page.

Printer - Software

If you have not done so, you want to Install the Full Feature Software.

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver adds at least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant and HP Scan. If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver. No Sign-in required.

Uninstall the full driver printer software from Programs and Features

Restart computer and Sign in

Next,

If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, disconnect the cable before installing the printer software.

Install a new copy of the Full Feature Software

If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation).

Restart computer and Sign in

After the Software is installed > Restart the computer and log in.

Note:  The Printer Assistant and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.
