Office Jet 8600
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Since I upgraded to High Sierra earlier this week, the documents I scan using Printers & Scanners in System Preferences within my Mac Book Pro turn into VERY LARGE documents.  I have been using the same settings for years (fairly low resolution so I don't create large files).  Apple has no idea what is happenning.  I reset the printers and reinstalled a new driver, but no luck

Hi @Kdevine5,

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

I do understand you're having an issue with the size of the scanned files after upgrading the operating system.

You could try those steps and also try using HP Easy Scan app.

Keep me posted!

Cheers 🙂

Hi @Kdevine5,

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, your printer is scanning a document with large fonts.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

How is the copy quality?

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

• Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.

• Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.

• Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.

• Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.

• Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.

• Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list

• Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.

• Click the “Add button” (+).

• Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

• Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select Secure AirPrint or AirPrint. Alternatively, you may select the name of your printer if available in that list.

You could try HP Easy Scan app to scan.

Let me know how this goes,

Have a great day 🙂

Cheers!

I don't believe you have understood my problem.  My printer/fax/scanner is working just fine.  However, since I upgraded my operating system to High Sierra the file size of my scans have gotten huge.  For instance, a document that is simply text and one page, when scanned in previously might be 100kb.  But after the upgrade, that same document scanned in with the exact same settings, ends up being 2MB.  One document with 11 pages of text, ended up being 22MB and I was precluded from emailing because it was so large.  I have discussed extensively with Apple but no one has heard of this.  They referred me to HP....but something changed with High Sierra.

Hey Flower_Bud:  Thank you for that suggestion.  I have never used HP Easy Sacn and that definitely made a difference.  The 11 page document that I had scanned in as text with no color was 22MB using the Printers/Scanners in Mac.  Using the HP Easy Scan App, it scanned in color (since there are some highlights on certain pages) and came out to only 4.2MB.  I definitely think this addressed the problem.  Now I just need to figure out how to use HP Easy scan.  Thanks so much!
