Hi @joesnova,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've installed the HP Scanning software and are still missing the desktop icon for scanning, you can try the following steps to create a shortcut manually.

Search for the HP scanning software:

  • Use the search function in your operating system to find the HP scanning software that you installed. Look for a program name related to scanning or the model of your printer (e.g., HP Envy 7640 Scan).

Create a desktop shortcut:

  • Once you locate the HP scanning software, right-click on the executable file.
  • From the context menu, hover over "Send to" and then select "Desktop (create shortcut)." This will create a shortcut on your desktop.

Check for the HP Printer Assistant:

  • Some HP printers come with the HP Printer Assistant, which provides scanning functionality along with other features.
  • Search for "HP Printer Assistant" on your computer, and if it's available, you can use it for scanning as well.

Use Windows Fax and Scan (Windows):

  • On Windows, you can also use the built-in "Windows Fax and Scan" tool for scanning.
  • Press the Windows key, type "Windows Fax and Scan," and open the application.
  • Click on "New Scan" and follow the on-screen instructions to perform a scan.

Use Preview or Image Capture (Mac):

  • On Mac, you can use the Preview or Image Capture applications for scanning.
  • Open either Preview or Image Capture from your Applications folder.
  • In Preview, go to "File" and select "Import from [Your Printer Model]."
  • In Image Capture, select your printer from the list and click on the "Overview" button, then click "Scan."

If none of these options work, you may want to check the documentation provided with your printer or visit the HP support website for additional assistance. Additionally, you can check if there are any updates available for your printer software that might address the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
