Sure - You might be able to do that -- what and how depends on the printer, device (computer, tablet, phone), the type of connection between printer and app (if any), and the app / software used.
Direct SMTP (Digital Send) Scan to Email is a specialized feature available on some printers. This process works well but does generally require that you understand how to set up the Profile AND that an App Password is used in place of the regular email password used with the email account.
HP Smart -- Windows and Mobile -- can, in some cases, Scan content and then "Share" that scanned content to an email recipient.
HP Smart > Share -- Windows version is touchy about the type of mail provider. An App Password is generally not required since the "Share" action in initiated by the user running the application (HP Smart).
HP Smart - Windows - Share requires that you pre-add your sender's email address to (New) Outlook (not the full blown client Outlook software). Doing so generally works but the newly added setup can get lost and have to be reinstated (added) again later to use the setup with "Share".
HP Smart - Mobile - is less troublesome.
