Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Scans saved as PDFs always produce oversized page dimensions, e.g. an 8.5 x 11 page saves as a 35.42 x 45.83 PDF. Working with the HP app on Mac Tahoe with an HP DeskJet 2855e All-in-One Printer.

This issue has previously been posted BUT no real solution was offered. HAS THE PROBLEM BEEN FIXED because it sure has NOT on my printer/scanner.

There are workarounds. I get that. But we shouldn't have to find workarounds when this problem seems to be inflicting a number of HP models using different Mac operating systems (and perhaps Windows OPs too).

THANKS FOR ANY UPDATE OR SOLUTIONS.

The two workarounds I am now using include: (1) Use Image Capture on my Mac to do the scanning. That works. (2) Scan, then open the oversized document to print (Command + P), set it up with page size, etc., then click PDF at bottom and click to "print" and it should yield a properly sized document.

Hi @Blue112

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for providing such a detailed description of the behavior and for outlining the workarounds you have already tested. It's also helpful to know that scanning through Image Capture produces correctly sized PDFs, while scans created through the HP App on your Mac running macOS Tahoe result in oversized page dimensions.

Based on what you've shared, the scanner hardware itself appears to be capturing documents correctly, since Image Capture is able to generate properly sized PDF files. The focus is therefore on how the HP App is processing or generating the PDF output.

To better understand the current behavior and determine whether an update has addressed it, please check a few details:

What version of the HP App is currently installed on your Mac?

  • Open HP App.
  • Select the application menu and check the version information.

Is the oversized PDF created when:

  • Scanning from the HP App directly to PDF, or
  • Scanning as an image and then converting to PDF?

Are all scan sizes affected (Letter, Legal, A4), or only Letter-size scans?

When viewing the oversized PDF in Preview:

  • Open the PDF.
  • Press Command + I (Inspector).
  • Check the reported page dimensions.
  • Does every scanned page show similar dimensions such as 35.42 x 45.83 inches?

Have you already removed and re-added the printer in:

  • System Settings > Printers & Scanners?

If you would like to perform additional troubleshooting, I recommend the following steps:

Ensure the HP App is updated to the latest available version from the Mac App Store.

Remove and re-add the HP DeskJet 2855e:

  • Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the printer and remove it.
  • Restart the Mac.
  • Add the printer again.

Reset the HP App:

  • Open the HP App.
  • Sign out if signed in.
  • Remove the application.
  • Restart the Mac.
  • Reinstall the latest HP App and test a new scan.

Verify scan settings before scanning:

  • Document Size: Letter (8.5 x 11) or appropriate paper size.
  • Output Type: PDF.
  • Auto-Crop: Enabled if available.
  • Automatic Resize or Fit-to-Page options: Enabled if available.

Since your Image Capture workflow consistently creates properly sized PDFs, that comparison is particularly valuable because it suggests the scanner is accurately detecting page dimensions and that the issue is occurring during PDF creation within the application workflow.

I appreciate you sharing the two workarounds you discovered. They are useful diagnostic indicators because they demonstrate that the original scan data is valid and can be converted into a correctly sized PDF through an alternate macOS scanning path.

Once you can provide the HP App version and confirm whether the issue occurs with all paper sizes or only specific scan sizes, we can narrow down the cause further and determine the most appropriate HP-based resolution.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
