I am getting vertical lines on the left side of the scan using the flatbed or the document feeder.   If I scan 2-sided, only the 1st page has the lines.   My problem seems to have begun after Dell updated my drivers.  Is  this a driver issue or hardware issue?  

 

The print function works great.   It is just the scanning that is the issue.    I have taken all the steps listed in the "Resolve scan quality issues on HP Printers" and nothing resolved.   Please Help!

How does it copy?

 

If the copy has the same lines then it's hardware.

It does the same thing when using either function.

That confirms the hardware issue, nothing soft-driver related. There is nothing much you can do scanner module is defective printer needs to be repaired.

I've read that the ribbons can be loose.  Could this be the problem?

 

If so, how easy is it to repair?

The ribbon cable on the printer side easy 2 screws, and the ribbon cable on the scanner side I don't know but a lot of disassembly is needed.
