Hello, I found your email a bit daunting, however a friend came over and uninstalled and reinstalled the hardware and this has fixed my problem.

Hi @JS1959,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your scanner didn't set up properly during the initial installation of your HP printer and now you’re unable to scan, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and set up the scanner again:
**1. Check Printer and Scanner Status
- Ensure that your printer is powered on and properly connected to your computer or network.
- Make sure the scanner is not displaying any errors and is ready to use.
**2. Reinstall HP Software
- On Windows:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Locate the HP software (e.g., HP Smart or HP Printer Software) and uninstall it.
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest software and drivers for your specific printer model.
- Install the software and follow the setup instructions to ensure the scanner is properly configured.
**3. Use HP Smart or HP Utility
- Download and install the HP Smart app from the HP Support website or Microsoft Store / Mac App Store.
- Open HP Smart and select Setup or Printer Setup.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the scanner.
**4. Configure Scanner in Windows
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Click Add a printer or scanner and ensure your HP printer is listed. If not, click The printer that I want isn't listed and follow the prompts.Once your printer is added, select it and click Manage.Click Scan or Scanner Properties and configure the settings.
**5. Configure Scanner in macOS
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.Click the + button to add your printer if it’s not listed.
- Select your HP printer and click Add.With your printer selected, click Open Scanner.
- Configure the scanning settings as needed.
**6. Check for Software Updates
- Ensure you have the latest version of the HP software installed. Check for updates on the HP Support website.
- Ensure your computer's operating system is up to date with the latest updates and patches.
**7. Perform a Printer Reset
- Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on again.
- Refer to your printer’s manual or HP support documentation for instructions on resetting scanner settings
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
