I am having issues setting up my  printer to be able to use the fax.  Can I go from the wall jack direct to the printer or do a need a phone between the two?  The video I watched showed hooking to a internet modem - that will not be possible as our modem is in the basement the printer is upstairs.  I keep seeing that I should use the cord that came with my printer - I did not get a phone line cord with the printer, I picked one up at a hardware store put I believe it is a 4 wire cord and I'm thinking I need a 2 wire cord.  Any help would be appreciated

In general, no physical phone connected to the printer is required - how you connect depends on the type of equipment you have.  If you do want a phone physically connected, see Page 56

Start in Section Additional fax setup  - Starting on Page 51

What kind of phone cord?

2-Wire phone cord - Page 128

Not sure about how well the Fax will work with Wireless -- distance and obstacles can be game changers for operational success.

Assuming you are using the Fax at the printer, after having set up the Fax using EWS, "send a fax" communication is handled at the printer and phone line wall jack connection.  Page 38

If you are sending the fax from your computer (Page 39), the connection between the printer and the computer must be stable and strong.  Once the job is accepted at the printer, the rest of the communication is handled at the printer / phone line jack.
