Welcome to the HP Community.

This is a printer that can scan documents and photos.

The mechanism for scanning slides (in a real scanner) includes a back light that is not present on a printer.

The back light shines a light through the slide / negative so it can be scanned.

Printers do not have a back light necessary to scan slides and negatives.

I've not heard back from anyone who has tried the following - the method has been around for a long time.

How-To: Turn Slides and Negatives Into Digital Photos

HP Printer Home Page - References and Resources – Learn about your Printer  - Solve Problems

 “Things that are your printer”

NOTE:  Content depends on device type and Operating System

Categories:  Alerts, Access to the Print and Scan Doctor (Windows), Warranty Check, HP Drivers / Software / Firmware Updates, How-to Videos, Bulletins/Notices, Lots of How-to Documents, Troubleshooting, Manuals > User Guides, Product Information (Specifications), more

Thanks for your answer, however, my old Epsom did scan film and slides, unfortunately I chose to upgrade my printer to this one. Looks like I will have to sell this and get an Epsom again. Thanks again

You are welcome.

The capability is a specialty - HP manufactures and sells scanners built for the purpose.

Yes, Epson makes fine products, too.

Good Luck.
