Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

I'm trying to set up a  Share folder for my new 7610 printer, on my Windows 11 machine.  I'm running into various issues with that not working.  However, in the process of trying to set that up,  I keep getting the "You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact the person who set up the printer" error when trying to set it up via the EWS.

I can't seem to find the actual answer that would Enable the function.  And yes, I'm the Admin on my Windows 11 machine.

Hi @rftech53,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you encounter the error message "You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact the person who set up the printer" when setting up "Scan to Computer" on your HP Smart Tank 7610 printer. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you resolve it:

Access the EWS (Embedded Web Server):

  • Open a web browser on your computer.

  • Enter the IP address of your printer in the address bar. You can find this by printing a configuration page from your printer's control panel.

  • Log in to the EWS using the administrator credentials (if applicable).

Administrative Rights:

  • Ensure you have administrative rights on your printer. You might need to log in with a certain level of access. Check if there’s a default admin account provided in the printer's documents.

Enable Scan to Computer:

  • Navigate to the "Settings" or "Network Settings" section in the EWS.

  • Look for an option related to "Scan to Computer" and ensure it is enabled.

  • Save the changes if you make any adjustments.

Verify Folder Permissions:

  • Make sure that the folder you are trying to set up for your scans (the shared folder) has the necessary permissions set. On your Windows 11 machine, right-click the folder, go to "Properties" -> "Sharing" -> "Advanced Sharing", and check the permissions.

  • Ensure the “Everyone” group has read/write permissions if you’re using this folder for shared access without restrictions.

Firewall and Network Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software isn’t blocking the printer’s ability to communicate with your computer.

  • Verify that both your HP printer and computer are on the same network.

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Sometimes a simple restart of both your printer and computer can resolve connectivity issues.

Firmware and Software Update:

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
