The rollers are squeaking when scanning documents through the feeder.  Is there a fix and if the recommendation is to clean the rollers, please advise any recommended products and/or process. Thank you.

Hi @jmcafee ,

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you are facing issues with the rollers in the printer.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

How long are you facing this issue?

Did you try any troubleshooting steps before contacting us?

Meanwhile please follow the steps given below:

Calibrate the product to align the colors

Print the diagnostics page from the Reports menu on the control panel to check the color alignment. If the blocks of color on that page are not aligned with each other, you need to calibrate the product.

  1. On the product control panel, open the System Setup menu.

  2. Open the Print Quality menu, and select the Color Calibration item.

  3. Select the Calibrate Now option.

Print a cleaning page

  1. From the Home screen, touch the Setup button.

  2. Touch the Service menu.

  3. Touch the Cleaning Page button.

  4. Load plain letter or A4 paper when you are prompted.

  5. Touch the OK button to begin the cleaning process.

The product prints the first side and then prompts you to remove the page from the output bin and reload it in Tray 1, keeping the same orientation. Wait until the process is complete. Discard the page that prints.

You may also follow this link and update the firmware for the printer.

Let me know how that pans out.

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask any other queries as  well,

Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help. 😉

Thanks Barachiel,

Your suggestions are good but the issue is related to the scanning/copying function, not the printing function.  The feed tray that pulls in documents for scanning and/or copying is squeeking.  I don't think the fix you suggest will work.

Hi @jmcafee ,

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉
I appreciate your time and efforts, Please follow the steps below to clean the rollers, This might fix it. 🙂

Follow these steps to clean the ADF's pick rollers and separator pad.

Step one: Check the pick rollers and separator pad

  1. Gather the following materials:

    • A clean, lint-free cloth, or any cloth that will not come apart or leave fibers

    • Water (distilled, filtered, or bottled water is recommended)

  2. Remove the originals from the ADF.

  3. Press the Power button () to turn off the printer.

  4. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  5. Open the ADF cover.

  6. Find the pick rollers and the separator pad.

  7. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with filtered or distilled water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the cloth.

  8. Use the damp cloth to wipe any residue off the pick rollers and the separator pad.

  9. Make sure that the pick rollers spin freely.

  10. Make sure that the drive gears are in place and are not broken. The drive gears are located next to the pick rollers.

Step two: Check the guide rollers in the ADF mechanism

  1. With the ADF cover open, place your fingers under the two tabs on either side of the ADF mechanism, and then lift the mechanism to open it.

  2. Locate the two sets of guide rollers in the ADF mechanism.

  3. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the cloth.

  4. Press the cloth against the guide rollers, and then rotate them upward with your fingers. Apply a moderate amount of pressure to remove any dust or dirt buildup.

  5. Leave the ADF mechanism open for two minutes to allow the pick rollers, separator pad, and guide rollers to dry.

  6. Lower the ADF mechanism, and then close the ADF cover.
