The on / off button on my HP Photosmart C4580 flashes constantly but does not switch on.  I have tried disconnecting the power source and reconnecting to no avail.  Is there a way to fix the problem?

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Do you have any memory card installed on your printer? If so, remove the memory card from the printer and use the steps below to perform a power reset:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4)Plug the power cord back into the printer

5) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

Let me know how it goes!

I have plugged directly into the main socket as instructed.  The on/off button continues to flash.  The ink cartriges do not move into a position where they can be removed. What do I do?

It looks like the printer carriage has been jammed, use the steps available here to clear the carriage jam.

Thanks for the link to the video. However  it presumes that the printer switches on.   Although plugged directly to the wall socket the On / Off switch continues to flash but nothing else in the mahine activates.  There are no error messages because the screen is blank.  When I open the machine front or back as instructed by ther video nothing activates.  Therefore I cannot access the print cartriges.  There are no paper jams anywhere. Is there anything else I can do?

I'm afraid, it's a possible hardware failure. Please call HP Support to obtain all available repair/replacement options. I've send you a private message instructions on how to contact your regional HP Support. Could you please check your inbox on the forums page for the private message.
Have a great day!
