Hi community, the scanning option under the print preferences disappeared. I can print but I can not change to scanning anymore. I already updated the printer software - but nothing really changed - still now scanning option.

Hardware: Apple Laptop - macOS 11,4 - HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

Thank you

Hi @Leyck,

I'd like to help!

I understand that there is no scan option on the Preferences screen.

Try the below steps to resolve the issue-

Try updating mac and printer firmware

To update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

To update Mac, try these steps - How to update the software on your Mac

Uninstall HP Easy Start

  • Click on Spotlight icon and type HP Uninstaller or by opening HP Easy Start.
  • Click on Continue to uninstall the software.
  • When prompted for Password, type in your system password
  • You can also uninstall by opening HP Easy Start.

Download HP Easy Start and install the printer.

You may also add the AirPrint printer to the Mac printer queue

  1. Make sure the printer is connected to the Mac or to the same Wi-Fi network that the Mac is connected to.

  2. Open the Apple menu , click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

  3. Look for your printer in the Printers list.

    • If your printer is listed, remove the printer before you add it with AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the Minus sign , click Delete printer, and then click the Plus sign  to open the Add window.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the Plus sign .

  4. In the Add window, select your printer with kind bonjour multifunction, and then select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint in the Use field.

Adding a printer to System Preferences using AirPrint

  5. Click Add to complete the setup

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
