The “Printer Scan” button isn’t there anymore. In its place is a “Camera Scan” button. The help video must be 10 years old because it still shows the “Printer Scan” button there.

Hello @Determined916, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Printer.

We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are glad we could help work toward a resolution. We hope our support has been valuable.

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please let me know the printer's name and the model number along with the network setup of the HP device so that I can assist you further?

In the meantime please try a few troubleshooting steps and let us know.

The HP Smart app (now HP App) has been updated, and the “Printer Scan” option may not appear if:

  • The printer is not fully set up in the app
  • The printer is not connected to the same network
  • The app is not recognizing the device as a scanner-enabled printer

Steps to restore “Printer Scan” option

1. Check printer connection

  • Ensure your printer is powered ON
  • Confirm your phone/computer and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network
  • Avoid guest networks or mobile hotspots

2. Re-add the printer in HP App

  • Open the HP App
  • Remove the existing printer (if listed)
  • Tap “+ Add Printer”
  • Follow the on-screen steps to add your printer again

3. Access scan correctly

  • Open the HP App
  • Select your printer from the home screen
  • Look for:
    • Scan or Printer Scan under the printer options
(It will only appear after the printer is properly connected)

4. Enable required permissions (Mobile devices)

  • Go to your device Settings
  • Find HP App
  • Allow permissions for:
    • Camera
    • Local Network
    • Files/Storage

5. Update or reinstall the HP App

  • Uninstall the current HP App
  • Download the latest version from:
    • Google Play Store / Apple App Store / HP website
  • Reinstall and set up the printer again

6. Try scanning from a computer (alternative test)

  • On Windows:
    • Open HP Scan or HP Smart
  • On Mac:
    • Use HP Easy Scan or Image Capture

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
