Hello Everyone,

My printer seems to be having problems copying or scanning anything. The result comes out as thick black lines. I know it's not the printing because in the preview of the scanning, I can see the black lines there as well. I was wondering if there is any help on this? I've seen previous forums, but when I click on the link to check out the steps, it's expired or no longer available. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Hi @YvonneMU

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I understand that you are getting a think black line while copying and scanning

I'd like to help.

Are you using the Scanner Glass or ADF while scanning/copying?

Le's perform a 'printer Reset and clean the Scanner Glass and ADF Rollers

Clean the scanner glass and underside of the scanner lid with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner.

  1. Turn the printer off, then disconnect the power cord.

  2. Lift the scanner lid.

  3. Spray a soft, lint-free cloth with glass cleaner, then wipe the scanner glass, glass strip (if present), the white backing under the scanner lid, and the white strip under the lid (if present) until clean, dry, and streak-free.

CAUTION: To protect the interior printer parts, do not spray the cleaner directly on the glass or on the underside of the lid.

Clean the scanner glass and under the lid, and any glass or white strips

    1. White scanner lid backing

    2. White ADF scanner lid strip (if present)

    3. Glass ADF scanner strip (if present)

    4. Main scanner glass

  4. Reconnect the power cord, turn on the printer, then close the scanner lid completely.

Next clean the ADF Rollers

  1. Gather the following materials:

    • A clean, lint-free cloth, or any cloth that does not come apart or leave fibers

    • Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might damage the printer)

  2. Remove the original document from the ADF.

  3. Turn off the printer.

  4. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  5. Open the ADF cover.

  6. Find the paper pick rollers and the separator pad inside the ADF.

Figure : Example of the paper pick rollers and separator pad in a OfficeJet printer

  7. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with filtered or distilled water, then squeeze any excess liquid from the cloth.

  8. Use the damp cloth to wipe any residue off the paper pick rollers and the separator pad.

  9. Leave the ADF cover open for two minutes to allow the paper pick rollers and separator pad to dry.

  10. Close the ADF cover.

  11. Reload the original document print side up in the document feeder tray. Gently slide the document into the printer as far as it can go.

  12. Slide in the paper width guides until they are snug against the paper.

Do not push the paper width guides in so far that they bend the paper.

  13. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
