Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

When I try to scan using HP Easy Scan.app or any other software like Mac Preview, the scanner fails to connect.  The scanner does work, because I tried the copy function on the front panel of the printer and got a copy.

 

The Printer Also does work from my computer, so the computer is communicating with the printer just not the scanner.

 

I've done all of the following steps:

  1. Removed Printer
  2. Removed all software using HP Easy Start.app
  3. shutdown Mac and HP printer.
  4. Unplugged both Mac and HP printer for 60 seconds
  5. Started everything back up
  6. Installed HP 8710 printer using HP Easy Start.app

Nothing works.

What does this mean?

You’ve done a thorough job troubleshooting, removing the printer, uninstalling HP software, restarting everything, and reinstalling via HP Easy Start. The fact that printing works but scanning does not (while copy works on the printer itself) tells us this is not a hardware issue. It’s a macOS communication problem with the scanner driver.

What This Means

  • HP Easy Scan and macOS Preview rely on the ICA (Image Capture Architecture) driver.
  • If the ICA driver is missing or corrupted, scanning fails even though printing works.
  • This often happens after macOS updates or when HP software isn’t fully installed.


Steps to Fix It

1. Verify ICA Driver

  • Go to:
    System Settings → Printers & Scanners → Select your HP printer → Options & Supplies → Driver tab
  • If the ICA driver is missing, scanning won’t work.


2. Install Full HP Driver Package


3. Reset Printing System

  • Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click in the printer list → Reset Printing System.
  • Re-add your printer using IP or Bonjour.


4. Use HP App


5. Check macOS Permissions

  • Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access.
  • Ensure the HP app or HP Easy Scan has permission.
