OfficeJet Pro 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The document feeder on the top of the OfficeJet Pro 7740 is not working.  I load the documents and the screen says "documents loaded".  But when I start the scanning or copying, the feeder doesn't even try to pull the documents through.  I followed the directions about cleaning with distilled water.  I've also turned it off, unplugged it, etc.  But still no luck in getting the top document feeder to operate.  I've only used the top document feeder a few times since I purchased the printer.  But I'm still working from home due to coronavirus so now having this function is even more important.  Hoping you can give me some additional advise on how to get this issue resolved.  Thanks.

@horsegal1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Have you tried using the flatbed to scan/copy and check if that works?

Make sure you have tried the steps mentioned in this document - ADF does not pick paper or feeds in too many sheets

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Try using the feeder.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
