HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased the MFP M29w several years ago.  For the first 6 months of ownership, it worked great for printing and scanning.

After about 6 months of use, the SCAN function stopped working.  See this post for specific failure information:

Re: MFP M29w Scanner Issues Never Fixed - HP Support Community - 9131900

No, drivers do not need to be updated.  No, a reboot does not fix the functionality.  No, different USB cables does not fix the issue.  Yes, the computer's HP software communicates with the MFP M29w.

The scan function fails the same way no matter what computer is used.  I have tried 4 computers and 3 different operating systems, and the failure is exactly the same.  The HP software on the computer fails to receive an image file from the MFP once the scan cycle is complete.

Is there any way to totally wipe the MFP M29w back to factory condition as originally shipped?  Not just factory reset of the WiFi settings, but fully wipe out whatever firmware or software was updated between when it was first shipped and when the scanner communications failed?

The M29w is a great little design.  But for the last couple of years, it is only useful as a stand for another manufacturer's very reliable printer/scanner that it was supposed to replace.

Thank you,

Hello @User5555 ,

HP does not provide any procedure or reset that downgrades firmware.

I recommend you take the printer in for a technical evaluation.

Hi Fabio,

Thank you for the quick response.

A bigger thank you for not recommending the obvious steps that would have been tried a dozen times before posting to the forum (reboot, re-install drivers, etc.).

For the cost of a technical evaluation, I will just purchase a replacement from a more competent manufacturer.

It's a shame, the form factor of the M29w is great.  For the first 4-6 months, it was a great little MFP.  Until an HP update broke it.

Thank you,
