I also have the same question and I remember I could not use either my gaming OMEN laptop or my Surface Book. The only place that I can scan is from my iPhone. This stupid Smart tasks thing is getting in way of simple task of scanning.

Welcome to the HP Support Community

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Could you please help me with the exact model name or the product number of the printer?

And the operating system of the computer?

Keep me posted,

Have a great day!

Cheers:)

Yes, I can provide you details such as my printer:
HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer

My Computer is with Win 10 Pro (latest thing):
OMEN by HP - 17t-w100 CTO

The app I installed which is having the problem is this:
HP Smart
verison 95.1.527.0
HP Smart - Microsoft Store

I was help by HP tech which basically installed the drivers to save the issue to scan. I did not like the solution since I prefer to use the MS Store app. I get the following Error: " There was a problem loading your Smart Task. Please try again." This message happens after a scan so something is wrong with the store App

Make sure the app is Up to date.

Uninstall the app and Reinstall the app

Uninstall the app from your Windows 10 device through the All Apps list.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Apps & features.

    Searching for Apps & features

  2. Click HP Smart in the list of apps, and then click Uninstall.

    Uninstalling HP Smart app

Use this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04675142 for using HP Smart app.

Try to scan.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

I also did the same thing. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it.

The same issue happens on my Surface Book but when I friend came over to my place to scan something. He was able to install the app and use it no problems. I don't know why the app works on his computer and not my two laptops.
