Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP Photosmart All In One B110a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've had some challenges with the printer since installing the latest Windows 10 update. I'm running Windows 10 Home, Version 1703, Build 15063.483. I have checked that I am running all the latest versions of HP printer software. I can scan on the printer and copy to a memory card. When I try to use the HP Solution Centre, I get HP Imaging Device Not found. I have completely removed the software and reinstalled without success.

The error code is 8, [(1,0,-2147221502)].

When I run the HP print and Scan doctor 5.0 and select fix scanning, I get a failure on the driver check, saying that The ScanDriver is unable to communicate with the product. The printer is connected wirelessly.

I should say printing is no problem.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hello, @TheDirger

Glad to know that the HP Scan and Capture is working well!

Like I mentioned in my previous post, certain Windows 10 environment is not very compatible with older programs such as Solution center. So I'd advise you use the HP Scan and Capture instead.

Hey there! @TheDirger, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you have scanning issue with your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Try to make a copy from the printer and check if it works?

Also, if you lift the lid of the scanner during the copying process, do you see a light come on and the scanner bar moving?

Please try the steps recommended below.

The HP Digital Imaging Monitor (DIM) software must be running in order to scan from the control panel.

1.Search Windows for c:\Program Files (x86)\HP\digital imaging\bin, then press Enter.

A window opens showing the contents of the bin folder.

2.From the bin folder, find and double-click hpqste08.exe.

3.Try to scan from the control panel again.

•If the error persists, close the bin folder, then skip to the next step to uninstall the printer software.

•If you can scan short from the control panel, leave the bin folder open, then continue with these steps to make sure hpqste08.exe starts when Windows starts.

4.From the bin folder, right-click the hpqste08.exe file, and then select Create shortcut.

5.Search Windows for shell: common startup, then press Enter.

A startup window opens.

6. Position the Startup fold window and the bin folder window side by side.

7.Click and drag the hpqste08.exe shortcut from the bin folder and drop it into the Startup folder window.

8. Close both windows, and then restart the computer.

9.Try to scan again. If these steps did not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.

I'll keep an eye out for your response.

I hope you have a great day!

None of the steps you suggested made a difference. I read the article in your response and discovered that I CAN Scan from the Microsoft Windows 10 Scan and Fax application, so the issue seems to me to be somewhere in the HP Solution Centre software. Interested in your response.

Hello, @TheDirger

I see that you were interacting with @A4Apollo. I'd like to be of your assistance 🙂

Solution Center is an older software and hence may not be compatible with the new Windows 10 environment.

The issue might have been caused by recent updates on your computer. I would suggest you a workaround by changing the compatibility on the drivers. Follow the steps below (Check the fig below for ref):

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them. (Including the HP solution center)
  • Restart your computer.
  • Go to http://hp.care/2q2zGv7 and download and save the full feature driver file for Windows 10 (Do not run the file, just download and save it to your desktop or download folder)
  • Now go to the download location, right-click on the driver file and select “Properties”.
  • Under “Compatibility” tab, check the box which says “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select “Windows 8” (In fig, I have selected Windows 7, but make sure you select Windows 8 or 8.1).
  • Also, select the box “Run this program as an administrator”.
  • Apply and save the settings.
  • Now, double-click and run the program.

NB: If the solution center is still not working, I would suggest you use HP Scan and Capture application to scan using your Windows 10 system. HP Scan and Capture is a simple application that captures photos or documents from an HP scanning device or your computer's built-in camera.  These images can be previewed, edited, saved, and shared to other applications as well.

Go to http://hp.care/2bUVkrw to download and install the Windows Scan and Capture app.

That should get the solution center working. Let me know!

Cheers 🙂

Thanks for your response. I followed the steps you indicated re the Solution Centre Issue and the problem remains. I should say that until recently, the Solution Centre had been working fine(although I did have to reinstall a couple of times due to what it claimed was an incomplete installation). So my feeling is that a recent MS update broke it.

Anyway, I downloaded the HP Scan application you suggested. For some reason their appear to be 2 devices for my printer one called 'HP Photosmart B110' and the other called Photosmart B110 series.

If I try to scan using the HP Photosmart B110 device,I get a general failure error. If I use the Photosmart B110 series device it works. The MS Scan and Fax app also works.

Thanks for your assistance.

CAN NOT SCAN FROM HP4500 OFFICEJET.  USING INSTRUCTIONS FROM 07-15-2017, I LOOKED FOR hpqste08.exe in the bin folder.  Could only find hpqste08.  There was exe file in the folder relating to hpqste08.

I have uninstalled and installed many times trying to get HP4500 to scan.  Each time I get the message "Scanning Software was launched w/ improper command-line arguments 8,[(-1,0,0)]

I also get "error" "-w Stib."  "131888"

Fatal Error during installation

Error Stituation Code: 03428625

It also showserrors relation to Windows 8 rather than Windows 10.

Help!!!!
