HP Color LaserJet MFP M776
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Brand new M776 unit, and am unable to detect the scanner, either by Network or USB.

  • Printing works for both connection types.
  • Network folder for scanning has been set up and says it's fine.
  • Windows 'Services' has WIA running.
  • Even the "HP Print and Scan Doctor" has 'Fix Scanning' as greyed out
  • Uninstalled and re-installed the latest, full drivers (50.1.4583.19174)
  • Scanning to USB works fine

@JAGForm

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor: Follow steps from the link: Click here

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP DeskJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

To reinstall, click here.

  • If the issue still continues, install using Using the Windows Built-in Print DriverClick here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

While you refer to WIA and Print and Scan doctor, I can understand you are trying to scan using any software on your PC?

Be aware that this kind of Enterprise printers supports direct digital filing scanning, not software scanning and no PC software should be used for scanning.

See page 113 of its user guide with all supported scan capabilities:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06361769

have you tried scanning to a network folder? this should be done from the printer screen and not from the computer, by selecting Scan > folder from the printer front panel.
