macOS 13.0 Ventura

I just bought a ScanJet Pro 2600 f1.

It works fine connected to a MacBook Pro with Ventura 13.7.8, but I cannot get OCR-ready PDFs from scanned documents.

All I get is pages that I cannot search, highlight, etc. How can I fix this problem?

P.S.: I also have a MacBook Pro with Sequoia 15.7.4. But I can’t even install HP Easy Scan on that machine.

Hi @Xavier2010

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you are unable to get editable PDFs from your ScanJet pro. Based on the HP content provided, OCR/editable text on Mac OS X is limited on HP ScanJet Pro scanners.

HP states that on Mac, integrated OCR is only available through the Scan button, and the shortcut assigned to that button must specify OCR output. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Scan text for editing (OCR)

  • The HP Scan software uses optical character recognition (OCR) to convert text on a page to text that can be edited on a computer. The OCR software comes with the HP Scan software. For information about using the OCR software, see scan text for editing in the online Help.

Scan to a PDF

  • To save your scan as a PDF, follow these steps:
  • Load the original into the input tray or on the scanner glass.
  • Open the HP Scan software.
  • Follow one of the steps:
  • Select Save as PDF or Email as PDF, and then click Scan.
  • Choose any other scan shortcut and select PDF, Searchable PDF (.PDF), or PDF/A (.PDF) from the File Type drop-down list, and then click Scan.

Create scan shortcuts

  • To create a scan shortcut, follow these steps:
  • Open the HP Scan software.
  • Click Create New Scan Shortcut.
  • Enter a name for the new shortcut.
  • Choose to create the new shortcut from current settings, or a previous existing shortcut.
  • Click Create.
  • Modify the settings for the new scan shortcut. Click More for more settings.
  • Click the Save icon next to the name of the new shortcut in the shortcut list to save the modifications to the shortcut, or click the Undo icon to undo modifications.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
