Hi @SIMONTINI,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP scanner is unable to find the device after a Windows update, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Restart Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart of both your computer and the HP scanner can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Check Connections: Ensure that your scanner is properly connected to your computer via USB cable or network connection (if it's a network-enabled scanner).
  • Update Drivers: Make sure your scanner drivers are up to date. You can visit the HP website, enter your scanner model, and download the latest drivers compatible with your version of Windows.
  • Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu), look for your scanner under "Imaging devices" or "Printers", and ensure there are no yellow exclamation marks indicating driver issues.
  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP provides a diagnostic tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor, which can help diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. You can download it from the HP website and run it to check for issues.
  • Firewall and Antivirus: Sometimes, security software can block scanner communication. Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus software to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Reinstall Scanner Software: Uninstall the current HP scanning software from your computer and reinstall it. This can sometimes fix corrupted software or settings.
  • Check Windows Services: Ensure that Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running. You can check this by typing "services.msc" in the Windows search bar, locating "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)", and making sure it is set to Automatic and started.
  • Check Network Settings (if applicable): If you're using a networked scanner, ensure that it is connected to the same network as your computer and check any network settings that may affect connectivity.
  • Rollback Windows Update (if recent): If the issue started immediately after a Windows update, you can try rolling back the update to see if that resolves the problem.

Following these steps should help you diagnose and potentially fix the issue with scanning from your HP scanner after a Windows update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
