Printing from computer works great.  When I attempt to scan from printer, says "No computer found."  I have followed all troubleshooting I can, via HP support and other message threads:  reloading printer, downloading software, trying Easy Scan, etc.  Nothing works.

I then went to printer website, clicked on "Scan" tab, and it says "You cannot use this function because it has been disabled.  To turn on Webscan, from the Settings tab, click Security, click Administrator Settings, select Enable for Webscan, and then click Apply."

When I go to settings -- security tab, I get "This site can’t be reached.  192.168.1.7 unexpectedly closed the connection."

Is the error associated with security settings the culprit?  Or is my computer software too advanced for the scan-to-computer function?

Thank you.

@CMelling, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

It sounds like Scan to Computer is disabled on your Mac. Enabling Scan to computer using HP Utility may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) On your Mac, click Finder, click Applications, click the Hewlett-Packard or HP folder, then double-click HP Utility. (If HP Utility is not available, download and install the install the printer essential software from here

2.) Under Scan Settings, click Scan to Computer, then make sure the Enable Scan to Computer check box is selected.

 3.) Try to scan.

If this does not help, as the scan/webscan settings are disabled on the EWS page of the printer, the printer has to be reset to its factory settings.

Let me know how this goes.

I opened up HP Utility tool; could not find anywhere on there to adjust scan settings.  Only setting options are:  Network Settings and Additional Settings.

Can you be more specific where I find the Scan settings under HP Utility?  Thanks.

When I go to "additional settings," takes me to the online webpage, which under the "Scan" tab, says "You cannot use this function because it has been disabled.  To turn on Webscan, from the Settings tab, click Security, click Administrator Settings, select Enable for Webscan, and then click Apply."

This is the step where I follow directions, and website gives me the "Site cannot be reached" error.

@CMelling

As you are not able to access the Scan option on the HP utility and not able to access Web scan feature on the printer EWS page, we will have to reset the printer to its factory settings which might help.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Keep me posted.
