We've had our AIO printer for almost 2 years now, and it's always proven easy to use. Up until this point, I've never had a reason to mess with the more advanced settings, but now I'm just beyond frustrated with my inability to access the 1200 dpi setting that should be available.
There are no resolution options in the quick-scan menu directly on the printer - no surprise - so I opened the HP Smart scan software for the first time since purchasing the printer.
Change this dropdown option... Change that dropdown option... Change resolution to-- Wait, what?? 300 is the highest setting? That doesn't make any sense, the maximum scan resolution should be 1200 dpi...
So I did some research, and apparently a lot of other people have had the same problem. What's HP's accepted response? Change the input from ADF (the auto-feeder) to Flatbed Glass and the higher resolution will be available. What's the problem with that response? I was already using the flatbed option because the ADF frustrates me.
As the computer savvy person I like to think I am, I thought, there's a workaround for this, right? So I opened my control panel and went directly to the printer. I changed the default settings, manually iput 1200 where the preset was 300, and tried a scan from there...
Yay! It took a little longer to scan, but it came through! ...wait, we have another problem. The scan that appeared to have worked showed a thumbnail preview, but couldn't be opened by any program on my computer - paint, gallery, etc. So It appears we are at an impass, my scanner friend.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to get a higher resolution scan? I'm already running the most current software and firmware.

Yes you have to scan from glass to get the higher rates. Try this.
Scanning issues…
Please try this scan solution:
HP Scan Extended
For Windows: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
Make searchable PDFs scans with this free scanning software - https://www.naps2.com/

Thank you so much for that download link, it worked like a charm! So much better than the basic HP Scan program recommended with the software bundle. I wonder why that isn't listed as compatible/recommended software on my AIO's downloads page... Sabretooth, you're my hero!
