Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Fax has been working fine for years.  Now no dial tone on phone, but OK when plugged directly into the phone jack.  Bought a new phone.  Problem is NOT with the phone.  Is there a way to test the printer to see if the fax function is working?  Does something need to be updated?

@Daisy39, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Run a fax test on the printer

Go to Setup > Fax setup > Fax tools > Run fax test

Note: Without an active phone line/dial tone to the printer, the test will fail and the fax will not work.

Check the connections

Make sure you are using a 2 Wire phone cable.

Are you using a dedicated fax line or is it a shared line?

Refer to this document for more info on troubleshooting fax issues.

Let me know how this goes.

I could not test the fax function.  Talked with our computer guy and concluded the printer was damaged by a lightening strike.  He said they have had a number of computers that were "hit."  (We have had a lot of thunder storms recently.)  The charge comes in through the phone line - through the printer and damaged the fax function in the printer.  That would explain why there wasn't a dial tone on the phone since the phone line was routed through the printer to the phone.  Another phone connected directly to the phone jack did work.
