Hi @cmorgan1957, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is giving a "User name or password is incorrect" error while using the Scan to Email function, it could be due to a change in your email account settings, security updates from your email provider, or incorrect credentials stored in the printer. Here’s how to fix it:

1. Verify Your Email Credentials

Make sure you are entering the correct email address and password.

If you recently changed your email password, update it in the printer’s settings.

2. Check Your Email Provider’s Security Settings

Some email providers (e.g., Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo) may block third-party apps from accessing your account.

For Gmail:

Enable Less Secure Apps (if applicable) or create an App Password via Google’s Security Settings.

If you have 2-Step Verification enabled, use an App Password instead of your regular password.

For Outlook (Microsoft 365, Hotmail, Live):

Enable SMTP Authentication.

If Two-Factor Authentication is enabled, create an App Password via Microsoft’s Security Settings.

3. Reconfigure the Scan to Email Settings

Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

Find the printer's IP address (printed on a network report or available in Settings > Network).

Open a web browser and enter http://<printer_ip> (e.g., http://192.168.1.100).

Go to Scan/Digital Send > Scan to Email.

Update Login Credentials:

Re-enter your email address and password.

If required, enter the SMTP Server settings:

Gmail: smtp.gmail.com, Port: 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS)

Outlook: smtp.office365.com, Port: 587 (TLS)

Yahoo: smtp.mail.yahoo.com, Port: 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS)

Click Save/Apply.

4. Restart the Printer and Try Again

Power cycle the printer after updating settings.

Try sending a test scan.

5. Reset the Printer’s Email Settings (If Needed)

If the issue persists, reset the Scan to Email configuration in the EWS and set it up again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
