Please confirm whether or not colored vertical lines on 1/2 of the page represent a hardware or software problem.    This is the result regardless of whether you are using the document feeder or placing a document on the glass.   The same result when scanning or copying.

This is a known issue. Even if you are out of warranty, I suggest that you hound HP until they replace this unit.
