HP LaserJet Pro MFP M425
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

We need to set our multiple machine by default to 600 dpi for Scan to Email. the menu don't offer us this option on our HP LaserJet Pro MFP M425

hp425-scan.png

Is there a workaround to have those machine that support 600dpi being able to scan at this resolution easily ?

Spec does mention this :

  • Scan Resolution: Up to 1200 x 1200 dpi (monochrome); Up to 600 x 600 dpi (color) Copy Resolution: Up to 600 x 600 dpi Fax Resolution: Up to 300 x 300 dpi

Thanks

If you want higher resolution (higher DPI), you must likely use the scan software on the computer.

This is how most printers work - what you can do on the printer control panel is restricted to what the control panel offers.  Printer and Scan software on the computer is almost always more robust, that is, computer software provides access to more features.

I have not yet found the "proof" in the documentation for this printer, except by way of the example you provide showing the limited number of scan resolution settings.  My conclusion is based on the example and my experience with other printer models and their documentation.

@dragon-fur thanks for your deduction, but I was looking for way to avoid this limitation, maybe with an upgrade micro-code or another menu somewhere.

You are welcome.

I am not aware of any means of getting around hardware limitations.  That means little - I am not a specialist in the technology.

You might have confused a dedicated scanner device with a printer that prints, scans, copies, and faxes.  Dedicated scanners, at least the higher end models, likely support the higher resolution at the device level.

Another Expert might be able to provide a better explanation - or a means of providing what you seek.

If the device is under warranty, contact HP Technical Support:

Submit a case online, explain your issue, and ask for help / clarification.

Reminders:

  • Use the serial number of the device to submit the case (do not post that information here).
  • In those areas where Chat is an option, Chat service hours are likely restricted.
  • Chat is not available in every region.

In the event that Chat is not available in your region:  Call the number provided in the HP directory, else submit your case online (to receive phone contact information)

  • HP will advise you there is a fee for phone support and / or other services when your computer / device is no longer under warranty.  This is normal business practice.

  • HP may tell you that certain services are not covered under warranty.  This is normal business practice.  Standard Warranty typically covers specific hardware issues as explained in the Warranty contract. Care Pack coverage and warranties differ by package.

  • USA / Canada: HP posts your regional contact information after you submit an online case.  Use the serial number of the device to submit the case to HP.
