Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

When I scan with HP Smart, I change:

  • Source: From “Document Feeder” to “Scanner Glass.”
  • Presets: From “Photo” to “Document.”
  • Resolution: From “300 dpi” to “600 dpi.”

Click Scan.

After the scan, click Save.

At this point, the only way I see to start a new scan is to click the left arrow (“Preview”) in the upper-left corner.

When I do that, all settings are reset.

If I’m scanning 20 different documents, I don’t want to have to re-choose the above settings 20 times. How do I set the above settings ONCE?

Thanks.

Hi @MattB01,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’re scanning multiple documents using HP Smart and the scan settings reset each time. Let’s go through a few steps to explain why this happens and how you can reduce repeated setup.

Understand how HP Smart handles scan sessions
HP Smart treats each scan as a separate session once you click Save.
When you go back using the Preview (left arrow), the app resets to default settings by design.

Use the “Scan Again” option instead of going back
After your first scan completes, look for Scan Again (not Preview).
This keeps the same resolution, preset, and source for the next scan in the same session.

Scan multiple pages before saving
Instead of saving after every page, use Add Pages / Scan Again to scan all documents first.
Once finished, save everything together as a single PDF or separate files if prompted.

Create and reuse a custom scan shortcut (if available)
In HP Smart, go to Scan → Advanced Settings or Shortcuts.
Save a custom setup (Document, 600 DPI, Scanner Glass) and reuse it for future scans.

Avoid switching Source mid-session if possible
Changing between ADF and Scanner Glass forces HP Smart to reset.
If you must use the glass, keep the source fixed and use Scan Again for each document.

Confirm you’re using the latest HP Smart version
Older versions reset settings more aggressively.
Updating HP Smart improves shortcut and session retention behavior.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for that very detailed response. However, I see no “Scan Again” option, as you can see in this screenshot:
