Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP F4480 All-in-one
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My system crashed, so I had to reinstall the software on the CD that came with my F4480 Prinetr/Scanner/Copier. But I still have no GUI. After a fresh install, "HP Solution Center" interface that I used before now fails, asking for Adobe Flash Player for Internet Explorer. I installed the flash player several times, for IE and FireFox. But "HP Solution Center" keeps asking for the installed Adobe Flash Player for Internet Explorer. Grrr.

It seems a thoughtless to make a printer dependent on a web browser. So what do I do, throw the HP F4480 out and get a better brand, or is there an interface available for the product? Sorry for the attitude. I have lost two hours of my life trying to overcome HP's myopic engineering. Has anybody overcome this problem?

The reason why the installation appeared to hang is because the notification to plug the cable in did not show. All is well. Thank you Jeet for your kind help.

Hi @Djard,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues related to HP Printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

Let's perform a clean install to try and fix this issue. Here are the steps:

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.

Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

Restart your computer.

Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.

Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.

Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".

Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.

Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (there is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.

Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

Open run again, type “%temp%” and press enter to get the temporary files. Delete all the files here. Skip the items which cannot be deleted.

Now restart your computer again.

Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.

Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.

Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.

Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.

Connect the USB cable only when prompted.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

Hello Jeet,

Thank you kindly for the steps. The command for "%temp%" in step 15 below does not go to any temp folder, so I deleted the files in the only two temp that might have HP files (q.v.). I got as far as setp 25. The link you povided is no good: it takes me to a page that states "Not Found. The requested URL /http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL27506/al-68493-5/DJ_AIO_05_F4400_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_140 was not found on this server."

Can you direct me to a functional page, where I can download the software? Thanks for your patience.

1. Unplug USB cable from the printer.
2. Control panel –> Programs & Features -> select all the HP Deskjet printer entries -> uninstall them all.
3. Control panel –> Devices and printers –> right-click on all "Printers and Faxes" entries -> Remove device -> Yes (there may be three) -> exit to Desktop.
4. Restart your PC.
5. Start -> Control Panel -> Device Manager.
6. View (upper text menu) -> Show hidden devices.
7. If there are any entries for "Printer," uninstall them; in such case, in the confirm device un-install pop-up, check “Delete the driver software for this device."
8. Check for entries under "Printer Queue" and "Imaging Devices" -> repeat the previous step: delete any printer entry or any “Unknown device” -> exit Device Manger.
9. Windows key + R -> in "Run" field, type the following command:

printui.exe /s (space between .exe & /)

10. Press "Enter" key.
11. In "Print Server Properties" window, select "Driver" tab -> highlight any printer ->
Remove driver and driver package -> OK -> Yes -> ignore any error messages (as long as printer entry is removed from the list) -> exit to Desktop.
12. Windows key + R -> in "Run" field, type...

c:/programdata

13. OK -> browse to Hewlett Packard folder...

C:\ProgramData\HP\

14. Delete all contents of the "HP" folder.
15. Windows key + R -> in "Run" field, type...

%temp%

16. Press "Enter" -> navigate to Temp folder...

C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Local\Temp

17. Delete all FILES in the folder (not
folders, unless HP) -> skip items that cannot be deleted.
18. Delete also any HP printer files that may be in...

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Temp

19. Reboot.
20. Windows key + R -> type...

services.msc

21. Click "OK" to get "Services" window.
22. Scroll down to and right-click on “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” -> Properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
23. Scroll up to and right-click on “Function Discovery Provider Host” –> Properties –> make sure Startup type is “Manual” -> Apply -> OK -> exit to Desktop.
24. Repeat same for “Function Discovery Resource Publication.”
25. Click on following URL...

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL27506/al-68493-5/DJ_AIO_05_F4400_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_140

26. Install the software -> connect USB cable when prompted.

It looks like you were interacting with @Jeet_singh, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend,

If the suggested steps didn't work, I recommend using the Windows built-in drivers:

If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver. A full feature driver for one or more Windows versions is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website.

   NOTE:

Where is the download button? The HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or is installed through the Windows Update feature on your computer. You do not need to download anything from a website in order to print, scan, or fax.

See the Frequently asked questions in this document for additional information, including how to scan using this driver.

Sloooow down and read my last post. I did not say the steps did not work. I said Jeet sent me a bad URL, which may not be his fault.

After laboring with failed searches, I found the software pack (you need to become better acqauinted with your support pages). FYI, here's the page with the download for the F4480:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/contacthp?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1128296&os=228&lang=en

OK. I ran the installation. It hung at the end. After about 20 minutes, I had to use Task Manager to terminate the process. So I don't know it the software installed properly. I'm going to reboot my system and see if the HP Solution Center (GUI) installed.

HP support used to be the best.
