I provide IT support for 2 different clients, both have the Officejet Pro 9018e AIO. Neither of them wants to create an account so they can scan. In the past during printer installation an icon would be placed on the desktop that would allow access to the different features of the printer, "Scan" being one of them. What is the work around, what is the solution? Or do I need to stop purchasing HP printers and go with a competitor? I use an Officejet Pro X476dn in my office and it works great you need to do the same for all of the printers lines. Please be customer aware and make things work simply. Thank you.

Your choices are to download and install the complete offline software package which will give you a desktop scanning application or configure a scan to folder location that scans directly to your computer from the printer. The Smart app is a cloud based application and therefore requires you to login to securely scan.
I am a volunteer, offering my knowledge to support fellow users, I do not work for HP nor speak for HP.

After looking at different printers I noted that some printers do not have the option to not use HP Smart, therefore you do not have the option to scan to a local location on your computer. I just purchased another printer for another client and found the same troubling problem but..... I noted another option was offered for the printer. There was an option to download HP Universal Scan - Full Feature Software and Driver. Yes this was the solution - no need to create an account. The client is thrilled, so am I.
Happy new year to all, we need one.
