Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I installed  HP Universal Scan - Full Feature Software and Driver for my OfficeJet Pro 9730e.

When I run the software it recognizes the printer as an HP OfficeJet Pro 9730 series.

When I try to select the Page Size, 11 inches x 17 inches is not an option.

When I try to set Custom Settings, it doesn't allow a dimension greater than 14 inches.

A workaround to scan an 8.5 inch x 17 inch page, for example, is to scan the entire area and then crop it. This takes significant extra time when I must scan multiple sheets of that size.

How can I get the software to recognize this is a wide-format scanner?

I've thought of a method you can try. What you need to do is install the HP Smart app and select Advanced Scan Mode. In the scan settings, manually change the page size to A3/Custom—remember to set the maximum to 17 inches.

I can't try that as it appears to require a subscription. I shouldn't need a subscription to scan the size document that is the reason I bought this multi-function device.

Hello @DanErd, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Officejet Pro 9730e.

We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are glad we could help work toward a resolution. We hope our support has been valuable.

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please try a few troubleshooting steps provided below so that I can assist you further?

Enable Maximum Scan Area

Ensure you're utilizing the full available scan area:

  • In HP Scan or HP Universal Scan:
    • Set Scan Size → Maximum / Full Glass
    • Disable auto-crop if enabled
  • This ensures you capture the largest possible portion per scan

Use Flatbed Instead of ADF

  • Always place wide documents on the scanner glass (not ADF)
  • The ADF has stricter size limits and will crop further

Take care and have an amazing day!

Drilling down in the "use flatbed instead of ADF" ...

I figured out there are three options for where to look for a document to scan: ADF, flatbed, or auto-detect. I was on auto-detect, using the flatbed. But when using the flatbed in auto-detect mode, the setting options are limited; "auto-detect" selection for the scan source only lets the user pre-select options both the ADF and flatbed can handle.

I finally changed the source selection to "flatbed" and, voila, the selectable options changed and 14"x17" is an option for the larger document sizes to scan. Silly little things ...
