when i scan a page to be copied and printed the short edge of the page is blank for about an inch or two.  It's cut off.  Print jobs sent from laptop come out fine.

Check the Scanner Glass and ADF:

  • Ensure that the document is placed correctly on the scanner glass or the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).
  • Clean the scanner glass and ADF to ensure there's no dust or debris that might be affecting the scanning process.

Scanner Alignment:

  • Verify that the paper guides are tightly fitted to the edge of the paper to prevent any misalignment during scanning.
  • Make sure the document is aligned with the edges properly.

Scan Settings:

  • Open the scanning software on your computer or the control panel on the printer.
  • Check the scan settings such as paper size, resolution, and scaling options. Ensure they are correctly configured to match the size of your document.

Printer Calibration:

  • Perform a printer calibration to ensure that the scanner and printer are correctly aligned. This can often resolve issues related to misalignment or blank edges.
  • You can usually find calibration options in the printer maintenance or settings menu.

Update Printer Software and Drivers:

  • Ensure that the printer software and drivers are up-to-date. Visit the HP Support website for the latest firmware and drivers for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e printer.

Scanner Bed Size Configuration:

  • Sometimes the issue might be related to the scanner bed size configuration. Check if the full scanning area is being utilized.

Steps to Check Scan Settings on Windows 11

Use HP Smart App:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.
  • Open the HP Smart app and select your printer.
  • Choose the Scan option and ensure that the scan settings such as paper size, resolution, and file format are correctly set.

Adjust Scan Margins in Printer Software:

  • On your computer, go to the Devices and Printers section.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e printer, right-click, and open Printer Properties.
  • Navigate to the Scanner Settings tab and adjust the scan margins.
