Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

I have the HP DeskJet 4100e. It is driving me insane.
I often have to scan/copy documents at work. However, when I put documents into the feeder it will not take them. It instead scans the flatbed, which is completely empty. Sometimes I have to let it do the flatbed scan. Close the useless scan, restart it and sometimes it will take from the feeder. This is the most useless product I’ve had to use and I don’t know how to fix this issue.

@Rae2025, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I’m sorry to hear about the scanning issues with your HP DeskJet 4100e. I understand how frustrating it can be when the document feeder doesn’t work as expected, let’s get this sorted out!

Check ADF Placement:

  • Ensure the documents are properly aligned in the feeder tray.
  • The feeder should detect the paper and pull it in slightly when ready.

Use HP Smart App for Scanning:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your PC or mobile.
  • Select Scan > Source > Document Feeder (instead of Flatbed).
  • If the app defaults to flatbed, manually change the source.

Update Printer Firmware:

Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer while it's powered on.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

If the issue persists:

  • Try scanning from another device (mobile or PC) to rule out software conflicts.
  • Check for any debris or misalignment in the ADF tray.
  • If the ADF doesn’t respond at all, it may be a hardware issue, in that case, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - Canada | HP® Support
