Scanner works with HP software and testing was successful with HP Diagnostic Utility 4.2. However when I try to create a PDF document from the scanner using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro I get an error message stating that Adobe cannot communicate with the HP 8600 scanner either WAI or Twain.
I worked fine before with my HP 6380 hooked up via USB

Hi jusandi,
Since the printer is able to scan from the HP software & Microsoft paint then the issue you are having is with the Adobe Acrobat 9 software. My first suggestion would be to uninstall the program, and then reinstall to see if the problem remains. If you still have the same issue you will need to contact Adobe technical support.

Hi swisher7,
Can you scan from Microsoft Paint?
Do you get the same issue on a different computer using Adobe Acrobat 9?

Dear Wizard,
I think I am experiencing the same problem. I have a HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. I tried creating a PDF from within Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. An error message appear in a new window: at the top it says “ScanGear” than there is a message stating “it is not possible to communicate with the scanner, the cable is disconnected or the scanner is off, verify the status, the scanner’s driver will be closed”. The printer is on and connected through the wireless. I can scan using Microsoft Paint normally. What is the problem? Is there a missing driver? How can I fix it? I can scan normally using a Canon Scan connect through the USB.
I forgot to mention that I am using a VAIO i7 laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate. The same problem is happening with another PC (an ASUS Netbook, Windows 7 Ultimate), but there is a different message: “Adobe Acrobat” at the top of the new window and the following message => “Multiple scanner drivers detected. Please choose a scanner”. I did not installed the Canon Scan on the ASUS Netbook.
Thank you in advance for any support or help.

Dear Wizard,
Thank you very much for your suggestion and support. It seems that uninstalling and installing again Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro won’t fix the problem. I found the following thread (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1026860) on Adobe Forum discussing the same issue. It seems that they also do not have a solution. The Adobe software works fine with older HP all-and-one printers. It is with the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus/etc that it is not working. Well, I will continue to look for a solution.
Thanks for your attention.

Hi jusandi,
Thank you for the update. You still may want to call Adobe to see if they have a patch or update which will fix their software. Below is information on how you can get into contact with Adobe.

The top two links on both sections for solutions go to BLANK PAGES: Solutions to Adobe Acrobat no longer available.
Have Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g and it will NOT PRINT ADOBE ACROBAT!
I must be able to print these files.
I will try to uninstall and reinstall but given the extensive lists of inquiries about the exact problem with scanning or printing, this is an INCOMPATIBILITY ISSUE that HP should not simply blame "the other guy" (Adobe) for the problem.
It's your software that I updated, not theirs.
However, if the latest Acrobat doesn't work, I'll try the next older version to see if that solves the problem.

I have the same problem with a HP 8710 AIO with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. I went to Control Panel, Devices and Printer and added a device (scanner). I could already see the HP 8710 AIO icons for fax and printer but there was not an icon for a scanner as it was previously when I was using a HP 7310 xi AIO. Another icon did not appear for the scanner but, I received acknowledgement of adding a "scanner". I immediately opened Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 to see if I could scan from the software (File, Create PDF, From Scanner, Color Document) and it worked.
