Hello checkout1,

It sounds like you just have something on the top feeders scan glass, like whiteout, dirt, etc., or you're having a power issue.

Could you check to see how the printer is plugged in? Is it plugged into a power bar or directly to a wall outlet? If it's in a power bar could you try plugging it directly into the wall.

If you're still having issues after that try following the steps in this document:

My HP OfficeJet 8600 suddenly started streaking its black copy output.  However, it could print black type just fine, so it was associated with the copy feature.

Procedure:  I shut the printer down with its power button, then completely unplugged the device.  After waiting a minute, I plugged it back in, then turned it on.

The Black copy feature worked fine after doing this procedure.   Apparently the power source disconnect/reconnect simply reset the programming of my HP OfficeJet 8600.   I used the same power strip and its same plugin.

Remedy:  Shut the printer down.  Unplug the printer.  Plug the printer back in.  Turn the printer on.
