Hi @Larry456,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Yes, it is possible to use a handset plugged into the port on the HP printer to send a fax using an AT&T calling card. Below are the steps to manually send a fax using a handset and calling card with HP printers like the 9120e:
Steps to Send a Fax Manually
- Load the Document: Place your originals print side down and top first in the center of the document feeder tray.
- Dial the Number: Use the keypad on the phone connected to the HP printer’s fax line to dial the recipient’s number.
- Note: Do not use the keypad on the printer’s control panel for manual dialing.
- Communicate Over the Phone: If the recipient answers the call, you can speak with them before sending your fax.
- Note: If a fax machine answers, you will hear fax tones.
- Send the Fax: Once you are ready to send the fax, press Start Fax Black or Start Fax Color on the printer.
- Note: You may be prompted to press 1 to select Send Fax, then press Start Fax Black or Start Fax Color again.
Using a Calling Card
- When you send a fax manually, you can hear dial tones and telephone prompts through the handset connected to your telephone line. This allows you to input any necessary calling card details before the fax.
- If you need to enter a PIN for your calling card and do not enter it fast enough, creating a speed dial entry to store the PIN can be helpful to ensure timely recognition by the calling card service.
Important Tips:
- Ensure Volume is On: Make sure the volume is turned on to hear the dial tone.
- Monitor Dialing: Using monitor dialing from the control panel allows you to dial a number as you would from a regular telephone and control the pace of dialing.
I hope this helps.
